Aphrodite Hills Resort, Paphos, Local information.

Aphrodite Hills is only 15 minutes drive from Paphos Airport and 20 minutes drive from Paphos itself.

Larnaca Airport is a 90 minute motorway journey.

The Penthouse is in the gorgeous Theseus Village area of Aphrodite Hills, very near the resort centre and its facilities - far closer than most other properties on the resort.

From Aphrodite Hills it is easy to explore Paphos and all of Western coastal Cyprus. Alternatively you can head East towards Pissouri and Limassol or North into the Troodos Mountains for a complete change of scene.

The gallery pages for this fabulous Aphrodite Hills holiday home show pictures of the resort, the local area and further afield. Also our Facebook Page is full of albums showing the surrounding area and lovely ideas for days out from this gorgeous holiday home.

Some ideas of where to go...

Aphrodite Hills itself offers plenty to do and explore and the adjacent coastline is also well worth some time.

If you' re seeking watersports you could head to Pissouri Bay, around 15 minutes drive away, a stunning bay with lots of friendly watersports operators and various restaurants to sustain you.

There are some great walking trails both in the hills and ravines around the resort and on this stretch of coast.

There is Segway and bicyle hire on resort and even 4 wheel pedal car hire - all an easy stroll from the Penthouse!

There's also a good, friendly mountain bike rental company in the nearby village of Kouklia which delivers quality bikes and safety equipment to the Penthouse, fully serviced and ready for all terrains.

The coastline and natural beauty

Aphrodite's Rock, where the goddess of love in Greek mythology is reputed to have emerged from the sea, is a 5 minute drive away.

Alternatively you can park just across the road from the resort entrance and walk to Aphrodite's Rock along a stunning coastal path in 20-30 minutes. Take your camera for the incredible views!  We have an album showing some of this stunning walk on our Facebook page.

A bus runs between Aphrodite's Rock and Paphos Harbour via the resort presenting many options e.g. walking to the Rock and back by bus or vice versa... click here for the timetable.

Curium, a local beach (see beach section below) offers spectacular scenery and horse-riding as well as fantastic swimming and beachside restaurants.

If you fancy a bit of off-road adventure, take a jeep safari over the beautiful Akamas Peninsula National Park to the beautiful sands of Lara Bay, home to a turtle sanctuary.

You could also visit the small town of Polis, with its blue flag beaches, and nearby Latchi, where you can stop for lunch or an evening meze in one of the picturesque restaurants around the old fishing port and maybe take a boat trip or try some water sports while you are there.

Sightseeing - Cyprus' cultural heritage is nearby

Several of the most revered archaeological sites in the region are close by.

If you're interested in ancient history head for the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos, which date from the 3rd Century BC, and the Roman villa with stunning mosaics at the House of Dionysus in Kato (Lower) Paphos near the harbour which also boasts a castle and a museum with Byzantine relics.

In the 3rd Century pagan religion co-existed with Christianity in Cyprus so you will find stories of gods alongside symbols of Christ.

The current archaeological sites are being slowly excavated as it is believed that there are still many treasures yet to be discovered.

Cyprus also boasts several beautiful monasteries and churches. Again our Facebook page gives you a glimpse of one of the monasteries within an easy day trip from the Penthouse.

Shopping

Should you not wish to rent a car, the resort's own supermarket in the Village Square is well stocked with food and drink, suncream and other essentials for your holiday. Otherwise there is a large well stocked supermarket in Pissouri which is only a 10 minute drive along the magnificent coastal road, a treat in itself, and several others in Paphos including a Debenhams with a food court around a mile from the end of the motorway.

There is a lively covered market in Paphos Old Town, which itself is worth wandering around and offers a good spot for lunch whilst looking down the hillside towards Kato Paphos and the sea.

Paphos also boasts a growing range of 'Brand Name' shops, many in the new Kings Avenue Mall near the harbour, as well as a wide choice of leather goods, lace and local artwork and souvenirs in more traditional local shops.

There are often art exhibitions around the area where you can find lovely original paintings and prints in a variety of styles, some of which you will see in our property.

For beach and watersports lovers

Did we mention that Aphrodite Hills is only 5 minutes from Aphrodite's Rock - the famous icon of Cyprus and Greek mythology?! Even closer is the Resort's own quiet beach, The Cove, just a couple of minutes drive down the hill, where you will find loungers, umbrellas, a cafe and toilets during the summer months.

Heading away from Paphos you will reach the traditional village of Pissouri with a selection of lovely restaurants and tavernas around the traditional village square, and at Pissouri Bay a beach with water sports in summer, and sunbeds / umbrellas for hire, an EU Blue Flag award for cleanliness and plenty of old Cypriot charm. There's a great choice of watersports here and much fun to be had for all the family.

Pissouri also offers a highly recommended PADI SCUBA diving centre.  Training courses and pleasure dives for the qualified diver are available from here, including free pickups from the Penthouse should you require them.

Curium, about half an hour's drive away is another very special beach. Accessed via the British military base at Akrotiri you descend down a stunning coastal road to a long and very gently shelving beach, fantastic for swimming and with a choice of restaurants.

Both our gallery page on this website and our Facebook page contain photos of some of the beach and watersport-related activities in the area.

Travelling further afield...

Cyprus' road network has been greatly improved in recent years so day trips from Aphrodite Hills to Limassol, Larnaca or Nicosia are all very realistic options as is a visit to the Troodos mountains.

A variety of excursions can be booked locally ranging from to cruises or speedboat rides along the coast to day trips to Egypt.  These and more are available through various outlets around the harbour in Kato Paphos.

For the more active / young at heart...

There are many fun attractions in both Paphos and Limassol. Paphos is closer but the Limassol road is very good so journey times are similar. There are waterparks (Paphos/Limassol), Karting (Paphos/Limassol) and bowling (Paphos/Limassol). The natural world is also well represented with a donkey sanctuary and a zoo, reptile and bird park within a few miles.

Oh, and lazing in the sun is fantastic here! :-)

If you just want to laze in the sun you have a choice of views in different directions, and can enjoy sun or shade, breezes or stillness.

Most villas have one terrace for sunbathing but the Penthouse boasts 5 terraces (1 covered) with different aspects (primarily South and West facing) and this choice of positions allows everyone from early morning sun worshippers to sunset lovers the very best of views.
